Driller Killer

One Inch Button FOR SALE!
Or you can always buy them from me in person at any Hot Hands show!
"Driller Killer" (1979) is a movie by Abel Ferrara. He's probably best known for "Bad Lieutenant" (1992). Its been awhile since I watched this. In the DVD copy I have, the print is pretty grainy looking and there's no menu or special features. Its the "Reel Classic Films" version, but that website apparently doesn't exist. Hmm... There's also another version that Amazon sells that has special features. I recall watching the second disc on Netflix awhile back (which unfortunately is now at "Save" status) and listening to the most insane commentary by Ferrara (mostly on his short films). You gotta hear it to believe it. I'm 99% sure that I wrote the first review on the second disc's page. I hate it when I forget to sign my name.
As you can see, there was a lot of tweaking that went into this button. I cut out Ferrara, and moved up the title. The drill I guess is supposed to more or less look like his hair.

Dr. Goldfoot And The Bikini Machine

One Inch Button FOR SALE!
Or you can always buy them from me in person at any Hot Hands show!
I've never actually seen "Dr. Goldfoot And The Bikini Machine", sadly. It is on Instant Streaming on Netflix, so I (and those who also haven't seen it) can take a look at what we're missing.
As you can see, there was definitely a lot of tweaking that into this. I basically made the title and the girl their own isolated image, and deleted everything else into a solid yellow background (besides the little doodles around the text). I also changed the color of her bathing suit and shoes to red that way it wouldn't wash out with the background.

There's a great cover version of the movie's theme by The Delmonas.

There's a great selection of "Beach Party" movies, (by American International Pictures, and the like) available Streaming:

I found this at a thrift shop ages ago. I'm not sure if this was for the employees, or if it was sold in the gift shop.

The Pauses

The Pauses are a cool, indie rock band with a little bit of keyboards and fancy effects thrown in from Orlando. It's led by sweetheart local scene supporter, Tierney Tough (real name). They are going on tour with fellow Orlando band, The Great Deceivers. So, if you catch them in your town, make sure to ask them for one of these pins!

This is second batch of pins that I've been commissioned to make for them. Whenever I can, I try to toss in some extra ones that I'll make up myself, or just alter the colors on the original design that the band/customer will send me.

This is the band's original design that you can get from them:
These are the ones (limited edition of one a piece) that I made up:
The boy and girl are cut out from the cover of the Pauses' "A Cautionary Tale" album. I tried to make them more or less look like they're dancing. I had to give the girl an extra hand, and finish the front of her sneaker. The font I used is called Kool Beans. Well, ain't it? The TV one is supposed to pay tribute to their live shows where they occasionally will have an old TV set playing some visuals. The font is called Dapper Thin.

Dark Star

"Dark Star" is so good, but it's definitely not for everybody. I think the slow pacing turns some people off. I always loved the kool visuals and strangely funny scenes in this. Who could forget the alien that looks like a red tomato pin cushion? One of the characters, Pinback, is Dan O'Bannon who you might know as the writer/director of "Return Of The Living Dead" and also wrote "Alien". This is John Carpenter's first movie that he directed.

As for the design of this pin, I just combined these two posters to create one unique look.

It's been forever since I watched "The Dark Crystal". I think I used the title screen for this button.

Courtneys

One Inch Button FOR SALE!
Or you can always buy them from me in person at any Hot Hands show!

(Sorry for the tiny text, I can't seem to change the formatting in Blogger)

Courtneys was a band that I played drums for around 2006 through I think 2008. Our last show was opening for Gravy Train!!! I still have a bunch of these buttons that I made, which were all completely different. I used a bunch of random photo objects and goofy clip art.
The band was around before I joined along with my fiance, Jeffrey who played bass. It started with two best friends named Courtney who began playing actively in bands as early as middle school. They started as Detzel which was named after someone they knew (not sure if it was a compliment or not). It might've been the same kinda idea I had in high school when I wanted to name a band after a teacher I didn't like named Tracy Rice (never happened).

(Early Video)
(Courtney R., Courtney M., Issac)

Anyway, Courtneys started playing shows as a 3 piece (as far as I remember) around 2004-2005-ish with their friend Issac on drums. Jeffrey and I saw them play at Austin's Coffee (I think that was the first time we saw them). Half their set was a drum machine and the other was real drums. I knew I immediately wanted to play drums for them because I just hated drum machines in general and wanted to add some power and soul to these great compositions that were backed by these electronic beats. I remember though being intimidated by Issac's overall talent, so i figured I wasn't good enough to play drums for them. I have this funny urge or instinct to always want to help other musicians make their music sound as best and as powerful as it possibly be.

After seeing them a bunch of times, they unfortunately lost their drummer, who if I remember right was busy with going to school. They brought in Jeff from Mumpsy, (who is a great drummer) but he was already wrapped up in many projects at that time. I got an email from one of the girls about playing some show they were doing, but for some reason that never happened. Eventually, the four of us (Courtney, Courtney, Jeffrey and I) got together and things really started to click and develop. I was actually starting out in another band at the same time called Jeanie and the Tits, so I was super busy!

(Me at Skull Kingdom)

We played all kinds of wacky shows including the now closed, Skull Kingdom and this girl Jenna's Sweet 16 party in a hotel on International Drive that looks like a castle. We shared that bill with our "brother" band, Doris Delay who were amazing. I'm still trying to track down a copy of their unreleased album!

After awhile, Courtney R. (who is nauseatingly talented) was losing interest and she eventually moved away to Chicago. We carried on as a 3 piece, writing really oddball songs and trying to push the boundaries of song structure.

As for recordings, there are some early recordings by the two Courtneys girls, which I believe include the instrumental, "Zebra" and a song that originally used drum machine called "Boo" that was carried forward in the lineup I was in. As a four piece, we have a 5 song EP/CD called "Shake It If You Got It" (still have copies if you want to buy one). I play drums on I think 3 out of the 5 songs. Funny enough, our best known song called "Bodman Bunny" (which the "Shake It.." phrase is the chorus) became widely used for some reason on random You Tube videos. I kinda sound like a drum machine in it. ha.

There were a few others that have since been taken down. One was with this girl dancing in her bedroom who trips and falls over at the end. I can't remember the others off the top of my head.

That was a fun band!

Just found this, apparently the guy from Early Next Year hated us. Hilarious!

Cooley High

One Inch Button FOR SALE!
Or you can always buy them from me in person at any Hot Hands show!

It's been awhile since I watched "Cooley High" but it was great from what I remember. I love teen/coming of age movies. One of my favorite TV Shows, "What's Happening!" is loosely based on this movie.
As you may have seen in my other blog, "Netflix Retrieving Screen", I was watching "RuPaul's Drag Race" a bunch. I couldn't help but notice how much RuPaul in plain clothes looks like Raj from "What's Happening". hehe. Maybe it's just the glasses.

Clifford

One Inch Button FOR SALE!
Or you can always buy them from me in person at any Hot Hands show!
With this pin, I moved the title up closer to "Uncle Martin" so the symmetry would be correct when altering it into such a small space.

"Clifford" is an incredibly stupid movie. My brother and I had watched this on cable many times. The movie was shelved for a few years before it was released because its so nutty.

Class Of 1984

I forget why I have two different ones of these similar images. This is a great movie and I was ecstatic when the DVD came out a few years ago.

Carrie

One Inch Button FOR SALE!
Or you can always buy them from me in person at any Hot Hands show!
I love this Spanish version of the "Carrie" movie poster because it's so graphic, like it would make for a great stencil design. The other versions that I've seen, (besides the American version) are quite scary looking (especially the Turkish version which looks more Italian to me). I replaced the original text with a "Maniac" movie font

Carnival Of Souls

One Inch Pin FOR SALE!
Or you can always buy these from me in person at any Hot Hands show!
I combined this random image and text from the film and changed the black and white image to red. I heard the remake is bad. Somehow I'm not surprised.

Cannibal Girls

One Inch Pin FOR SALE!
Or you can always buy these from me in person at any Hot Hands show!
I've never seen "Cannibal Girls", but I always loved the "ringing bell" trailer that I first saw on "Mad Ron's Prevues From Hell". Even more funny is seeing Eugene Levy's afro pop up.

The Brood

Or you can buy these from me in person at any Hot Hands show!
For this pin, I combined these two posters, basically using the American title with the French poster artwork.

Bikini Beach

As far as editing this poster goes, I removed the blue flag at the top and all the smaller black text and pictures because they may not have been legible on the print out.
